Artificial Propagation Techniques for Pond Fish

    In 1958,Professor Zhong and his colleague succeeded in propagation bidhead and silver carp cultured in pond by combining techniques using flowing-water and hatch hastening.Afterward,the technique of pond fish artificial propagation were established and great economic and social benefit were gained from this invention.In 1965,a national inventional award was awarded by the People's Republic of China.

The Techniques of High Yield Experiment
of 10,000-mu Fish Pond in Pearl River Delta
 
    The research investigated aquatic resources systematically in the Pearl River Delta and provided scientific data for the further development and utilization of aquatic resources in the river. The results showed that by using the high yield techniques in the10,000-mu fish ponds in the Pearl River Delta, annual production increased from 339.5 kg per mu in 1982 to 696 kg in 1984. Two years later, this practice spread to 400,000-mu fish ponds in Guangdong Province and other provinces and cities of the country. The research won the first grade prize of the Guangdong Provincial Scientific and Technological Progress in 1986 and the second grade prize of the National Scientific and Technological Progress in 1987.
Research on the outbreak-infective disease of
Sinperca chuastsi and its prevention and cure technique
 
    The outbreak-infective disease of Sinperca chuastsi has brought great loss to Sinperca chuastsi culture since 1994. The research studied the epidemiology of the disease, revealed that the virus is the main pathogen of the disease and analyzed the characteristics of the virus. At the same time, a combination prevention and cure technique including inspection, vaccine, medication and water quality control was invented and extended to 10,000 ha. The research won the second prize of the Guangdong Provincial Scientific and Technological Progress in 2002.
Some cultured fishes introduced or domesticated by PRFRI
      A number of cultured species, such as giant prawn, tilapia, rohu, catfish, and Megalobrama hoffmanni were introduced or domesticated by PRFRI, some of them have become important culture species in China.
